Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To extend the use of the temporary ‘please slow down’ sign across the whole Dorset Council area.

Reasons for the decision:

Beginning in July 2023 with financial support from the Police and Crime Commissioner an executive decision was made to conduct a 12-month trial in North Dorset of a new information ‘please slow down’ sign.

This sign is aimed at combatting the risk of speeding and the fear of speeds within village communities where other safety measures are unavailable.

The trial was conducted in three villages with positive feedback being received highlighting that it had increased the feeling of safety.

The purpose of this executive decision is to allow officers to use this sign where appropriate across the whole Dorset Council area and to remove the need for any further trials.

Operational guidance has been created to support delivery and to ensure that officers meet their responsibilities of the Rural Roads Protocol to keep signs, lines and street furniture to the minimum needed for road safety.

The signs are classified as temporary and will therefore be reviewed in line with the operational guidelines.
