Approve the refreshed Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy to be published as a supporting strategy to Dorset and BCP Councils Local Transport Plan 2026-2041.

To support this growth, between 1,970 and 2,460 public chargepoints will be required, with Dorset Council potentially sponsoring up to 67% of these. The strategy outlines a phased delivery approach, supported by data-driven site selection and stakeholder engagement, to ensure infrastructure is deployed where it is most needed.

Environmental and public health benefits are central to the strategy. By promoting the shift from petrol and diesel vehicles to zero-emission EVs, the strategy supports improved air quality, reduced noise pollution, and lower carbon emissions. It also ensures that infrastructure is inclusive and accessible, with all new chargepoints required to meet PAS 1899 standards for disabled users. These measures contribute to safer, healthier, and more equitable communities.

The strategy also supports Dorset’s economic and technological ambitions. It enables revenue generation from chargepoint usage, which can be reinvested into further infrastructure development. It encourages innovation through the adoption of smart tariffs, ultra-rapid charging, and renewable energy integration. These elements ensure that Dorset’s EV infrastructure is future-proofed and responsive to market developments.

Governance and oversight of the strategy will be provided by the Public EV Charging Infrastructure Programme Board, which will monitor progress through a comprehensive set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These include metrics on EV uptake, chargepoint availability and reliability, customer satisfaction, and funding secured. The strategy has been reviewed by the Place and Resources Overview Committee, with feedback incorporated prior to formal sign-off by the Cabinet Member for Place Services.
