Decision:

To proceed to preliminary design of Option 3 Two-way Traffic with parking removed.

 

Reasons for the decision:

In line with public preference and supported by Ward Members

 

Alternative options considered:

Option 1 – Full Closure to Vehicles (except service and emergency vehicles)

Option 2 – One-Way Traffic (southbound) with Contraflow Cycle Lane

Option 4 – Do Nothing (retain as is)

 

Financial Implications:

No budget implications at this stage. £500,000 from LTP has previously been agreed to seed fund the development of the project. A funding request will be taken to Cabinet at a later date for funding to cover the full cost of the scheme. Currently estimated at £2.5m but is subject to further design and updated cost estimates.

 

Legal Implications:

No legal implications at this stage. Scheme will require traffic regulation orders to implement. Formal consultation for the required regulation orders will be undertaken following preliminary design. Expected Autumn 2026.
