Reason(s) for Decisions:

The Weymouth Quay Regeneration project has been delayed over the last 4 years for a number of reasons including the covid pandemic, but also the resulting insolvency of the main contractor who had been selected to carry out the work. Inflationary increases in materials and fluctuating costs have made it difficult for contractors to quote for the work, but we are now able to go into contract with Knights Brown to deliver the long overdue quayside work. The improvements that are to be made to the quayside will improve the public realm and provide support to harbour users and commercial fishermen with the intention of sustaining and creating employment and supporting Dorset Council’s corporate priorities. The improvements will also generate additional income for the harbour and improve harbour facilities.

Do nothing, return the funding to DLHUC and delay the works.

Decision:

Approval is required to go into contract with Knights Brown to deliver the Weymouth Harbour Quay works as outlined in the 2018 Coastal Communities Fund application approved by Weymouth & Portland Borough Full Council held on 11th October 2018.

Dorset Council Cabinet agreed at their meeting of 5 October 2021 that payments in excess of £500k can be paid by Dorset Council in relation to the delivery of the Weymouth Quay Regeneration Project, and that the agreement to make such payments is delegated to the Executive Director for Place after consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment and the Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Assets and Property.
