Issue - meetings

To receive the deffered report from the Designated Nurse for Children in Care.

The Executive Director Children Services introduced the Designated Nurse for Children in Care and Care Experienced Young People who described the report and provided current statistics to provide an additional insight along with the report.

There was a ranging discussion that covered off several key areas;

Initial health assessments and the reasons why they uptake and timeliness did not meet the 20-day statutory requirement including factors such as;

·       choice and consent

·       extenuating circumstances

·       placement out of area

The mitigations for this include partnership working, officer determination and a robust notification process.

Health passports had been developed in partnership with Health colleagues and work happened ensuring the data behind them was relevant to reporting.

Dentistry for Children in Care and is now in place to ensure access to a dentist for initial assessment and ongoing dental treatment. Current provision alongside areas still to be covered by this scheme was discussed.

Asylum seekers approach using an interpreter to support the completion of the necessary documentation, and considerations and areas of concern such as Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and out of county placements.

Pregnancy Pathway was discussed to ensure quality of care and outcome for those going through it and the development and inclusion of a Compassionate Pathway and the integration with the Pause programme.

Serious Violence work and the approach being taken in a preventative space and an example of this worse was described and the impact of the approach. Funding had been requested 

Actions-

The Executive Director for Childrens Services wrote a statement of support from Dorset Council to endorse continued funding of the resource for Serious Violence to Community Safety Partnership.

The Corporate Parenting Board considered the opportunity to have training provided by NHS colleagues to support their role as Corporate Parents.

This item was declined unanimously by the Committee due to Health Partners being unavailable to attend the meeting. The report will be deferred to a future meeting.
